It's been a blast, but the time has finally come to close up shop and say goodbye. Topic [A] was a joy to do and we're proud of what we accomplished. One of the common threads running through all the great emails we've been getting is, "Topic [A] was the last bastion of smart conversation." And that's gratifying, because that was the whole reason behind the show in the first place. Every week, we had the freedom to ask the most fascinating people we could find their thoughts about everything from the Middle Eastern geopolitical landscape to the latest Britney Spears trashfest, and get not just opinions but ideas...not just "talking points" but points to talk about. Perhaps the most rewarding thing about Topic [A] was being able to shine a light on the books, movies, plays, articles and theories we thought you should hear about, and introduce you to the minds that created them. So many of your emails have told us that you waited for the Hot Pick section of the show with a pencil in hand. "Our Sunday nights just won't be the same" has been another refrain. For the staff of Topic [A], our Monday-through-Fridays won't be the same either. Working on the show has been profoundly rewarding for all involved. We felt we kept the flag flying for a smarter world. For the next year I will be hunkered down writing a book about the legacy of Diana, Princess of Wales in time for the tenth anniversary of her death. But you can catch my commentary on the passing scene every Thursday in the Washington Post Style section posted on washingtonpost.com and drudgereport.com. The rest of Topic [A]'s superb team of Rich Flynn, Sara Leeder, Molly Conroy, Sarah Horne, Ron Fried, Miriam Reinharth, Jesse Kornbluth and Alexandra MacCallum will continue to wage the guerrilla war for quality on other shows on other networks. You will see our fearless Executive Producer Kathy O'Hearn's name surfacing soon as the new Executive Producer on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Meanwhile all of us who have had the privilege of working on Topic [A] will miss the opportunity to stimulate and entertain you once a week. Thanks for giving us the chance to do so. Take care. Tina Brown & the Topic [A] StaffWhat are people saying about Topic [A]?
Looking back on Topic [A]...
